Local Melbourne council proposes 5m smoking ban from children’s playground to stop effects of secondhand smoke, need to extend to all areas
With a proposed $2000 fine for offenders, councils are finally acknowledging what we have all known, the harmful effects of secondhand smoke from cigarettes.
One thing I find amazing about this story is that by introducing the 5 meter smoking ban, the council is acknowledging that cigarette smoke can travel in a horizontal plan. This second smoke is also dangerous to children but to any person within close proximity to a smoker, be it at a childrens playground, a pub, restaurant, cafe or any other public space.
This really needs to be extended to all public space whether outside or in, including open areas in restaurants & pubs.
Well done Moreland Council:)))
