Unexpected special guest trainer – motivator

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

In the middle of a circuit session at North Fitzroy in the wee hours of 6.30am, clients were exhausted from a mixture of sprints, burpees, push ups, mountain climbers, etc, all the fun things that attract us to get up early to attend a 6am Bootcamp Session.

Whilst the Fitmates were being pushed to exhaustion by two trainers for this session (Anthony and Bianca), they didn’t see a third trainer coming along, but then again neither did Anthony and Bianca!

One young lad, looking fresh as a daisy in jeans and jumper (just think of North Fitzroy – 6.30am walking through Edinburgh Gardens after a big weekend!) thought the Fitmates weren’t training hard enough and took it upon himself to yell instructions from a distance.

Upon getting down and doing some of the most technically correct push ups we had seen, he informed the Fitmates they should look like him as he proceeded to lift his jumper and shirt, to reveal a nice coat of fur on his chest and well rounded belly!

If this advice wasn’t enough, he also mentioned that we should all get off the couch and stop smoking bongs!!
He then sprinted quicker than Usain Bolt, mixing in a few star jumps and squats.

To cap off his performance he somersaulted up the hill at Brunswick St Oval.

This was a 30sec workout of the highest magnitude, to which he received a round of applause and motivated the Fitmates to even great heights for the rest of the session.

Just gave me a thought for a Bootcamp session……somersaults up the hill!!

Healthy 2am munchy habits after a big night out – disaster avoided

Monday, February 13th, 2012

A client of Fitstyler (name withheld on the grounds it might incriminate him) enjoyed a big night out on the town.

At the end of a highly enjoyable night, it was time to head home and call it a night.

“After a few drinks on Saturday night I was feeling very good,” he said.

Most amazing was the resistance to the usual array of 2am temptations after consuming alcohol -  McDonalds and Kebab shops.

But being health conscious he thought he’d better go home to bed (well, the alcohol was also a big reason for that).

Yet, after arriving home he still felt a little bit peckish. So he decided to boil some rice with soy sauce. He put the water on,  turned on the TV, and settled down for some quality 2am visual chewing gum.

Cut to 4am. He wakes up, TV blaring, pot burning and smoke billowing throughout the room.

A quick jump off the couch &  some carefully chosen words later (beep), he managed to stop the smoke, remove the destroyed pot from the stove and most importantly TURN off the TV!!!

Disaster adverted, he went to his snug little bed for a nice long sleep.

The next morning everything was far more relaxed. He enjoyed a lovely breakfast, which included finding a nice little surprise in the fridge – the TV remote.

The morale of the story?  Keep eating healthy food, but maybe choose something that doesn’t require cooking at 2am.

Passport problems, lost so much weight – immigration didn’t believe it was me

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

One of our awesome Fitmates has lost a huge amount of weight and looks absolutely amazing.  So much so that she was quizzed at Singapore airport when being processed by immigration because they didn’t believe she was the person represented in her passport.

Passports are valid for 10 years and this picture was now 7 years old.  When she was  asked to produce her drivers license it provoked a similar reaction was encountered as, yes, the photo was also 7 years old.

After being interviewed and assessed by numerous officers, she was finally given the all clear.

The incident has prompted her to renew her passport photo before going to the US – immigration there is very unforgiving.

For some people the change in your looks can be quite significant and this case dramatic.  The one part of losing weight that we often don’t consider is for some people the change to your appearance, so much so that often people that you haven’t seen for over 5 years may not recognise you. It’s a great problem to have but an unexpected situation that you often don’t think about.

For those people who have lost significant weight, this may lead to excess skin around the abdomen and under the arms which may require cosmetic surgery to remove the excess folds of skin.

Funny Fitness Story – Bub bopping to rhythmic sound of mums boxing gloves

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

The unexpected happened at Michael’s Moonee Ponds class.

During the Monday morning Mums & Bubs session, baby Jarves was sitting on the rug with his older brother Casey (sons of Michelle M).  Both were enjoying a snack. As the younger sibling, Jarves copies everything that Casey does.

As the mums started boxing in close proximity to the bubs they could hear the sound of boxing gloves making contact with the focus pads.

The tune of the gloves hitting the pads morphed into a rhythm that got Casey bobbing his head as if he was dancing to a beat.

Not wanting to miss out, Jarves also starting bobbing his head in time to the delight of the group.

Perhaps a pair of musicians in the making?

Fitness trainer bowled over by client’s dog at morning boot camp

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

At Fitstyler, we encourage clients to bring their dogs to boot camp, on the proviso that the dog doesn’t interfere with other Fitmates, or pose a risk to the safety of Fitmates or other park users.

Well, during our 6am boot camp session at Edinburgh Garden we have 3 regular four-legged friends who join their owners for some exercise.

As our trainer, Anthony, was explaining the next exercise for the session, however, James & Jess’s pet Kelpie Chariot decided to literally fly into Anthony’s leg and knock him down!

Ironically, Anthony fell flat into a sit-up position.

At first everyone was a little shocked as he fell on top of Chariot (totally unavoidable and unexpected). Nevertheless, both dog and Anthony were fine and it was all laughs and giggles after that.

It’s great that dog owners are happy to participate in exercise classes with their dogs.
