Funny fitness story placed bottle of wine into the fridge before boot camp

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

A very funny fit the story about how a Fitmate placed the bottle of wine into the fridge before boot camp.

While this may appear to be hard-core, getting home after the boot camp session and having a couple glasses of wine, the weather was predicted at 32°, so she was looking forward to enjoying a nice glass of chilled white wine after work.

It’s great to indulge with the wine or beer however you just have to watch your level of consumption as nowadays a lot of people will have one to two glasses of alcohol, which can get a little bit worrying if you become dependent on this level of consumption on a daily basis.

The recommended drinking guidelines for what constitutes a standard drink is actually quite small relative to the glass size and the quantity being 100ml for a standard drink of wine based on an alcohol content of 13.5%.

Next time you’re looking at enjoying a lovely glass of red or white just remember to monitor your consumption, it’s great to enjoy a glass here and there but be careful it doesn’t turn into a situation of dependency.

With summer just around the corner, and Christmas parties only a few weeks away for some people it’s easy to get carried away and over indulge.

Funny Fitness Quote: dermatologist suggested botox only wanted mole removed

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

A Fitmate while undergoing a routine procedure to remove a mole which she was concerned about, went to a dermatologist to see whether the offending mole requirred removal.

Well the clinic was very swanky with plush fittings that had a huge interior decorator budget.

No sooner was Katie R sitting in the chair that the dermatologist suggested she get some Botox under the eyes, Katies response was that she only wanted to get a mole checked out.

Apart from being very funny, it does raise a serious point about the perception or expectation that is placed upon the public, especially woman about their appearance.

With womans magazines having barely pubusent girls with adolescent figure and photoshoped images, it is a bit concerning that suggesting a course of Botox is acceptable.

Look at a recent Miss World finalist that is arguably in an unhealthy weight range, is this sending out a positive message about a women being happy with their own body image?

Even girls under 18 years old are getting botox injections, mmmmm, 18 years old, really, this is very worrying.

What happened to growing old gracefully and looking after yourself so you dont look 80 years old when your 40. (BTW K isn’t 40 or looks 80 years old).

With the cosmetics being a billion dollar industry, there is a lot at stake when trying to drive ongoing sales. This leads to misleading product packaging that makes claims based on there own internal clinical trials and non scientific terminology to describe the benefits.

As part of this industry the botox market has exploded and with more and more woman being subjected to mass media campaigns, the glamourising of movie stars and magazines showing manipulated images of models, there is increasing pressure to surcome to the hype generated.

Funny Fitness quote “if worried about the mozzie bite wait for locusts coming”

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Funny Fitness quote, our Fitmate Louise who was bitten by mozzies at Monday night’s session was commenting at last nights session that her ankle swelled after boot camp, straight away JP said “if you are worried about the mozzie bite then wait until the locusts come”.

Well I have seen it all at the parks but with the baby locusts hatching in Northern Victoria, there are fears that the swarms will hit Melbourne with even the possibility of affecting the Melbourne Cup.

So unless the locusts are planning on being selective about where they migrate to, you can only assume that the locusts will infest large tracks of our city during their migration to source more abundant food supplies.

Locusts heading towards Melbourne

So added to the trainer manual will be a section on insect swarms, luckily we don’t have earthquakes or cyclones in Melbourne.

Well something to look forward to in the coming months, LOCUSTS:))

Funny fitness quote “Rookie mistake” Don’t say you like the exercise

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Very funny quote from Katina K about about the exercises being performed, “Rookie mistake” Don’t say you like the exercise, otherwise Andrew will change the exercise quick smart.

The underlining point is when an exercise is perceived as being enjoyable or the person likes that particular exercise in a boot camp environment, it’s probably too easy and the level of exertion is too low. I prefer Katina’s usual gauge regarding the effectiveness of the exercise by whether the f word is expressed repeatedly:))

Ultimately there is always a little bit of discomfort when you are pushing and exerting yourself, of course this is always within your limits.

Unfortunately a lot of people sustain injuries by engaging in a particular exercise when there are signs that things are not quite right, sore knees, hips, joint pain etc that indicate maybe an expert opinion should be sourced rather than the old adage that “No Pain, No gain”.

Alternatively we have to know our limits and not burn ourselves out through excessive exercise either.

But with Katina’s funny comment, all I can say is there will be more burpees:))
P.S I have never heard a Fitmate at Boot camp say that the “like” burpees

Funny Fitness Quote The thought of hurdles gave instant weight loss

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

At Boot camp last night, we had a funny fitness quote when a Fitmate Rochelle saw the mini hurdles and commented that “the thought of hurdles gave her instant weight loss”.
Fortunately we only use 2 heights of mini hurdles and while they may appear a bit scary, they provide a safe and effective way to add a little bit of plyometric exercise.

Remember when performing any type of exercise that places stress on your knees, hips and ankles to start with low intensity and monitor your ability to maintain control and posture throughout the movement.

Always progress the exercise, maybe starting by stepping over the hurdles first before moving to more advance movements whereby your full body weight is being absorbed by your knees, hips and ankles. Your knees, thighs and ankles should be perfectly parallel to each other with no internal or external rotation. Without having adequate support and strength to maintain correct posture through these movements, you can quickly cause damage or sustain injuries.

A simple test is to perform a single leg squat without the knees and legs turning inwards or outwards, similarly standing on either your left/right leg and while bending your free leg, bring your heel to your butt. Once again your should be able to perform these movements with perfect control.

So using the mini hurdles are great for weight loss when used correctly and preferably under supervision.
