When it comes to exercise & dogs, it’s hard to involve both parties so here are some ideas to help you exercise with your dog & improve fitness

When it comes to exercise & dogs, it’s hard to involve both parties so here are some ideas to help you exercise with your dog and improve your fitness.

1.Sprint based interval training, dogs love to chase sticks, balls etc so race your dog to retrieve the ball then jog back to the start, repeat 3 -4 times

2.Movers & Shakers, while holding the ball high in the air, side step to the left, to the right, move forwards and backwards continuously.
You are the mover while your dog is the shaker, after 2 minutes hand the ball/toy to your dog and swap roles.

3.Walking/jogging with your dog, the harnesses available now give you the freedom to attach your dog to a waist harness while maintaining a full range of movement.

4.While walking/jogging around an oval or field, stop, throw the ball, perform squats or lunges until your dog returns, next throw the ball and run in the opposite direction until your dog catches up with you, repeat the full sequence.

5.Try an outdoor group exercise class, it’s not as scary as you may think.

Remember to warm up thoroughly beforehand and consult medical advise when engaging in any rigorous exercise.

So it’s not as hard as you think, with these simple ideas to exercise with your dog, you will improve your fitness & give your dog a work out as well.

Great to see people participating in Boot Camp with their dogs, today we had 3 dogs that behaved extremely well, everybody wins

Its great to see people performing exercise with their dog at Boot Camp.
So often I see people with their dogs at the park standing around, chatting to other dog owners while they use a throwing tool to pick up the tennis ball from the ground and launch it for their dog to chase.

This is the perfect opportunity to play with your dog and chase after the ball as well to add some excitement. While some people may want a little more than this chasing game, we have found having dog friendly boot camps encourages people to participate in exercise while allowing their dog to get some exercise as well.

Ultimately it is all about safety and an unrestrained dog can not only pose a danger to itself but to other participants.
Funky new dog harnesses and leashes enable their owners to secure their dog while running.

We have some ideas to help you get out and start exercising with your dog today.

So it would be great to see more people getting involved in exercise, be it a Boot camp or any type of outdoor group fitness training to exercise with their dog.

To achieve your fitness goals you can buy a $15000 road bicycle but it won’t make doing a 200km ride easier, you have to do the training

Monday, June 8th, 2009

I heard a great analogy this morning regarding taking perceived shortcuts to achieving your goals.
You can go out and spend $15000 on a road bike (Cycling) to improve your cycling yet it won’t help you ride 150-200 kms unless you have done the training. Talking about how wonderful the bike it, how light and fast it can go will be meaningless unless you do the hard yards and actually do the training.

The bike isn’t interested in how expensive it is, you still have to push on the pedals no matter how much you have spent to make it travel great distances or go fast.
