Sleeping past the alarm clock

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

It’s funny how quickly an unfavourable habit can be reinstated so quickly.

I was speaking to a Fitmate today who has missed sessions over the past 2 weeks after a nasty bout of the flu.
After months on never missing a session, she found herself sleeping past the alarm, TOO HARD< CAN”T BE BOTHERED.

It’s always the first time when we feel the most quilty of not getting up but before you know it, after 6-8 times of saying I can’t be bothered, you really aren’t bothered enough anymore to get out of bed.

The hardest thing is not to break the habit, the very first time you wont to get out of bed, make the commitment, push yourself a little harder.
Now every time the alarm goes off, it gets a little easier to get out of bed

Strange phenomenon @ North Fitzroy

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

The strange phenomenon of rain stopping before our Fitzroy Bootcamp continues:

6.10pm Tuesday 21st August, heavy rain
6.30pm, skies clear- no rain
7.31pm, rain starts
7.38pm, torrential rain:)))

Training today, wedding tomorrow

What dedication, Emma was squeezing in some last minute training before her big day on Sunday.

Have you had your couch injection?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

A fitmate mentioned a term I have never heard before, the “Heathrow injection”
What is the Heathrow injection you ask, well for people who spend any extended time in London seem to suffer the affliction of unexplained weight gain & lethargy.

Not sure if leaving in darkness & returning home in darkness from work or spending a lot of time at the pub or to much couch time has anything to do with it:)))

Have you had your couch injection yet?

The hardest part is placing your feet on the ground

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

It’s getting to that time of year, colder & sometimes wet weather.
The alarm clock goes off & its time go to work or fitness training.

What happens!
Maybe not much at all, it’s nice & cosy under the doona & you hit the snooze button.
What is really happening?
Well the subconscious part of the brain, the “I really don’t belive this is what I really want to be doing” takes control of your arm as you reach for the snooze button.
It’s not really about the outside temperature, the lack of light, more about what you really think about your exercise regime.
I have never heard someone complain at the end of a session that they are cold, it’s too dark.

Maybe unconsciously you believe that you won’t see any results, that deep done the effort requirred to bring about a change is greater than doing nothing & accepting your current state of health.

Maybe the unconscious mind doesn’t really mind the current state, it’s like quitting smoking.

If you are swayed at a conscious level to quit due to the rational reasons, public pressure, guilt, fear of the health implications, social isolation etc how can you possible suceed if deep down your brain is saying “actually we love rush of nicotine, we love the heightened sense of relaxation & comfort, we really dont have any intention to stop but don’t tell the conscious brain”
