Riders in the Fog

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Well for those of you up before sunrise there was plenty of fog around Melbourne.

For a regular bunch or riders who travel down Nepean Highway to Mordialloc and back to St Kilda, the morning had that sombre mood.

No matter what the weather conditions, the “North Road” bunch move at swift speeds as part of their morning routine finishing at Cafe Race in St Kilda for the Cafe latte & half toast.

Well Friday is the social ride, no break neck speeds, just a chance to reflect on the week and keep the nutrients flowing through the legs, ready for the longer rides on the weekend or maybe some club racing.

Unfortunately cyclist have received much negative press about the rogue riders who like rogue motorists reflect a small part of the cycling community.

I ride with the North Road bunch most mornings and have found the group respectiveful of other motorists and road rules.

Bek’s super mum inspiring people

Bek’s super mum, great to meet inspiring people.

Well last night I had the pleasure of training Bec’s mum Karen who made a special guest appearance to our Melbourne Boot Camp.

What I didn’t know is that Karen performs in the gruelling half ironman triathlon.
It’s only a 2k swim, followed by an 80k ride finished off with a 20 run.

Not only does she complete the tri but she has placed 5th recently.

It wasn’t until I questioned beck why her mum was lapping everyone in the sprints that I discovered her secret.

Well her latest results are:
Busselton Ironman December 2008 her first Ironman … 12.00 hours and 45 sec, 5th in her age group – and two places from a Hawaii qualifier spot!!!
Hard day…. 1.09 swim 5.35 bike ride and a long 5 hour
marathon + transitions!

Other achievements in 2009
- 1st Woman NSW Master Time trial championship
- 3rd Scody Australian Team Triathlon Premier Woman’s division

So Karen whenever you are down from Sydney, drop in for another session:))

Always happy to meet Bek’s super mum and other inspiring people.

Autumn rains & shorter days

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Well hopefully last night was a sign that the rain is back.

Welcome back La Niña:))

Big thanks to Lauren for putting in a huge effort last night under the wet conditions and saying towards the end “I could have been pushed harder!”
