Funny Fitness Quote Not just getting through Boot camp but getting to boot camp even harder after a big weekend

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Funny Fitness Quote from our Melbourne CBD Fitmate after the session, when I commented that he did well for getting through the session after a big weekend, he replied that just getting to boot camp was a big enough achievement.

There must have been a lot going on in Melbourne on the weekend as our morning classes also experienced smaller attendances. I’m not sure if the looming big, nasty blob of unappealing weather had anything to do with it though.

For a lot of people the weekends are a chance to unwind, relax and chill out but there is the risk of too much of a good thing.

I know it’s boring stuff that people really don’t won’t to know about but we really have to try to stick to the safe drinking guidelines.
Think about your body like when you first purchase a brand spanking new car with 0kms on the speedometer. You can neglect your car by speeding away in the morning while the engine hasn’t warmed up, neglecting to change all the fluids regularly, ie oil, filters, water, brake fluid, transmission fluids etc. For the first 10,000, 20,000kms everything is ok but when you start to get to 50,000-70,000kms things start to deteriorate, it’s harder to start, maybe a little bit of smoke from the exhaust.

Well the same thing happens to your body, after years and years of neglect your body to will start to deteriorate.

Amazing rainbow, balmy weather and colourful skies this morning at boot camp radar

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Check out the amazing rainbow and colourful skies we had this morning at boot camp. It was an incredible 12.5º at 6.00am with balmy weather conditions and 78% humidity.

You get the most amazing sunrises and rainbows at boot camp

While most people were snoozing, our Fitmates were working hard with our interval based training.

Many people laugh at claim that we have rain free boot camps in the Melbourne CBD and North Fitzroy, but once again we’ve done it! So, yes I can say it again, it never rains at boot camp, at least not in Nth Fitzroy:))

Last night it started raining at 7.32pm, just after we finished boot camp and again this morning, but as you can see by the dark, nasty radar image we escaped the downfalls again.

Looking very ominous radar image of approaching storm to Melbourne

So there you have it, some awesome views from our morning boot camp and some evidence proving it never rains:))

The Body will quickly acclimatise to cold weather | 10º this morning considered warm

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

It amazing how the Body will quickly acclimatise to the cold weather. At boot camp this morning, it was a balmy 10º with the general consensus amongst other Fitmates that is was a warm morning.

Every year when the mercury drops, the first couple of weeks of cooler weather in the mornings are greeted with “Grrrrrr” and “why am I hear”, yet after the warm up, the layers of clothing are slowly removed with everyone in either T-Shirts or singlets.

Similarly if you have an extremely hot summer with a continued spell of above 30º temperatures that we experienced last year, as soon as the weather changes to cooler temperatures of 18 – 20º, people are reaching for the jackets.

Alternatively an 18 -20º day during winter will have everyone reaching for the T-Shirts. There have been numerous studies that have shown how the body acclimatises, there was one study that prepared scientists going to an Antarctic base camp in 1993 by having one group sitting in an ice bath before they left while the other group made the usual preparations. Guess what, the group who sat in the ice bath adjusted more easily to the colder temperatures and experienced a lower rate of illness.

So while training in the cooler weather may seem unappealing, Boot camp training is not so bad after all.

Fitness training outdoors over winter too hard

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

It’s 5.30am and it’s time to go boot camp training over winter, it’s cold, wet and miserable and you’re feeling very unmotivated, so is it really that bad?

Fortunately for people who live in Melbourne, we have very little rain so while this is disastrous for our reservoirs and water catchments, it’s great for fitness training.

So next time you’re thinking, mmm, should I or shouldn’t I, just think about how much better you will feel after the session.

As I always say, the hardest part of any early morning fitness program is putting your feet onto the ground, after that it gets easier.
Just treat your boot camp or outdoor fitness session like a business appointment.

Rainy weather at Melbourne Boot camp last night – great for fitness training

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Great to see 7 Fitmates braving the rainy weather conditions to get to our Melbourne Boot camp last night. The outlook was bleak with heavy rain forecasted for Melbourne.
While some may feel this is extremely unappealing, with the cold wet conditions and the icy south westerly winds, it actually isn’t so bad once you get moving.

Considering it was a whole 8º, you can see from the pic that everyone is wearing T-Shirts. The body quickly warms up and those feelings resistance to the cooler temperatures quickly subside and the euphoria from the training takes over.

Training outdoors in Melbourne isn't so bad

So next time you’re considering the opportunity of training outdoors, all you need is a little bit of shelter providing protection away from the rain.
The whole experience isn’t so bad after all.
