Nathen Deakes- Australian Mens Racer walker “McDonalds is my first post race meal” I would be extremely surprised if AIS endorsed this.

Friday, May 1st, 2009

At recent advertisement with Nathen Deakes was endorsing how a childhood post competition meal has continued into his professional career.
From the AIS website, they recommend the immediate intake of carbohydrate (CHO) of 1g/kg Body Mass each two hours.

While there is no definitive numbers on post exercise CHO consumption, various studies also site consuming 100-200 grams to replenish glycogen storage levels.

Post exercise nutrition is especially the most important to:
-refuelling the muscles and liver of their expended energy;
-replacing the fluid and electrolytes lost in sweat;
-allowing the immune system to handle the damage and destruction caused by the exercise bout; and
-manufacturing new proteins, red blood cells and other cellular components.
So at a guessimate nathen may weigh between 60-70kgs so with a Big Mac containing 45grams of CHO, will 2- 5 Big Macs be on the menu? Add in 20 grams of Saturated fat, is this elite athlete nutrition?

Australian Miss Universe finalist caused furore by sending out the wrong message about the image of healthy body types. Are the pageant organisers sending out a positive message to teenage girls or women in general?
With eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia on the increase, such events need to show leadership and act responsibly in sending out messages to the public on acceptable body images.

Body image unhealthy

With the continued pressure on woman to achieve unrealistic and unhealthy body types, should there be some regulation?

In a way it’s misleading people when a 14 year old girl is portrayed as an adult with photoshop work to make remove any skin blemishes or imperfections.

Are you 40, 50 or 60+ & make excuses for lack of exercise, ask Bette Calman who at 83 has the strength & flexibility of someone half her age

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Next time before you make excuses for not looking after your body, think about how an 83 year old continues to teach yoga while having the strength and flexibility of someone half her age.
Our mind can take us anywhere but can equally be a limiting factor in pursuing our health and happiness.

No no excuses for lack of exercise, just ask Bette Calman.

With Australian worker’s addiction to work getting out of control: 123 Million days of annual leave not taken, the govt has moved to educate

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

With our constant consumption comes the need to eventually pay for what we consume, mortgages, car loans, personal loans, credit cards, store credit, more clothes, electrical stuff or anything for that matter requires money and lots more of it.
Throw the threat of looming higher unemployment and the result is more work & less play.
If you layed out the average house contents from 2009 compared to 1959, how much more stuff do you think the average person/household now consumes or stockpiles??

In recognition of the negative impacts this is having not only in the work place but for society in general, the Australain Government has released a new initiative called “No leave, No life”
Are you guilty of too much work & not enough play???
