Is the GFC getting you down? Are you remaining positive or is the negativity creating more negativity?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel, if you believe there is more doom & gloom followed by more doom & gloom, chances are you will experience more doom & gloom.

No matter how bad the situation, ask yourself is there a positive or something to be learnt?
Life is all about taking control and not being a victim, believe in yourself and surround yourself with like minded people.

VW Effect, when buying a particular car, do you suddenly notice them everywhere? Our brains bring this memory to our consciousness

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Imagine if you focused on a goal the same way you do when buying a car, suddenly all you see around you are people achieving the same goal, who are successful.

From a scientific perspective, the ares of the brain responsible for screening information is the reticular activating system or RAS.

The RAS is a network of nerve fibers that originates in the medulla oblongata (brain stem area) and proceeds up through the midbrain into the neocortex ( the place where thought is processed). The task of the RAS is to detect new and novel stimuli. When something new or different is perceived in the environment, the RAS alerts the brain to possible danger by causing an ”arousal state.” If a stimulus, such as a sound, is repetitive in nature, the RAS calms the brain and causes it to enter various peaceful states, depending upon the nature of the stimulus therefore preventing sensory overload.

Check out this video, what are you really seeing verses what has been screened by your RAS.

He/she not into you, not sure?? It’s like buying a pair of shoes, walking past a window, you see these shoes, so you walk into the shop..

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Recently I have been speaking with friends/clients re relationships.
What keeps coming up is the “He/She’s not into you” phenomenon, girl meet boy, boy can’t commit, not sure. confused, needs space, more time….

Well I like to compare finding the right partner to buying a pair of shoes.
You are walking along, minding your own business when you casually glance into the shop window and see these shoes.
Enough interest has been generated to enter the shop and make a closer inspection, there are 2 outcomes, you buy or you don’t buy.
Now you either go “wow” I have to buy these shoes or maybe sit there debating about whether you buy, you may be umming & arring will they go with my outfit, my handbag, are they too expensive, too uncomfortable, not my style or do you go “yes, I’II buy them without hesistation”
Or do you walk out the shop and have a think about it as you don’t won’t to make the wrong decision, or maybe you will check out what other shoe shops have in stock.

If the boy/girl can’t decide are they getting the “WOW” factor, it’s quite a simple process.
The world is full of shoes ready to buy, but before you buy you have to know what you’re looking for, something sleek & stylish may not be very practical or comfortable or maybe it’s not the worlds coolest shoe but you will wear it until the soles fall apart.

So with finding your perfect pair of shoes, some quick pointers:
1.Make sure there is a WOW factor
2.Size, while you may have the WOW factor, are they the right fit?
Too tight and you are putting up with the pain & discomfort, too loose and you are constantly trying to keep them on
3.Will your friends like your these shoes
4.Quality; Will they last or look great for a few months & fall apart
5.Are there little niggly things about the shoes you don’t like when you first try then on but decide that these little annoying things are ok?
In time these annoying things may grow larger like a hole in the sole.

Remember there are plenty of shops selling every different type of shoes, try something crazy every now and then by trying on a pair of shoes you would normally would walk past, you may be surprised the the fit & comfort:)))

Lastly a word of caution about shoes you have bought but decide to return them.
Under no circumstances go back to the shop to buy them back again, once you have decided to return the shoes, the decision should be final.

To walk 1000 miles you need to take the first step” any goal needs to be broken down step by step.

To often we take the attitude that Rome needs to be built in a day, yet anything that we build starts with an idea, through to the planning and finally construction.

Your goals need to be broken down into micro goals, all of these micro goals form a group of many mini goals which in turn form your big goal.

Imagine you are hiking and you have a goal to get to point X, yet on the way you find a huge chasm, a void that stretches for 2 meters across. Straight down is certain death, you are carrying all your supplies and equipment, do you take a run & jump or find another route?

Taking the easy route will enable you to reach point x sooner yet the consequences of getting it wrong are irreversible.
So by finding another route that weaves it’s way down the mountain and around may have similar chasms, maybe not as deep or as wide so if you fall you can get up and continue the trek.

Focus on and believe you can achieve your goals, 2 great examples of self belief, coincidence or making it happen?

We often talk ourselves out of trying to achieve goals or we don’t truly believe in ourselves or surround ourselves with negativity.
In the past week I have spoken to 2 people who truly believed in achieving their goals and achieved success.
1.John is involved in the TV industry and is extremely passionate about what he does, so much so that he moved to country Australia to a local TV network to get some experience.
After packing his bags he relocated and started in a job nobody wanted. Well after 6 months John decided to try his luck at getting a job back in the city.
Within a week of being back his mother was speaking to a work colleague about how John was looking for work, well this person gave the contact details of the person John needs to speak to in a major network.
Within 3 days John had an interview, no CV, no show real, he had jumped over a massive amount of hurdles without lifting a finger or making a call.
The interview consisted of a practical situation, after completing the task 10 minutes ahead of the allocated time, he had the job from a major TV network.

2.Peter runs a tech company supplying shopping centres, after years of trying to secure a contract with a major player in the industry he had all but given up.
One day while rushing aroung the local supermarket he bumped into another shopper, they started talking, well this person once again was the person who he had being trying to demonstrate his wares to.
Business cards were exchanged, the following week he had an appointment. Advanced discussions are taking place to engage Peter’s company.

Coincidence, some may say no way or while others may take the view that their belief and determination were the governing factors.
It’s not a matter of wishing to win the lottery but rather channeling and believing enough to change your behavior to make it happen.
