Goals are great but don’t loose sight of the big picture, it’s all about balance, go to hard and other aspects of your life may suffer

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This morning while chatting amongst friends, I heard about a guy who after winning a major regional cycling race last year decided to concentrate on another major race that was being run recently.

Most of this year was focused on winning the last event with the last 2 months purely dedicated to extremely highly intensive training with minimal rest if no rest at all. This event consumed his life and I imagine having a demanding work life family may have been compromised.

Remember every action has an reaction or as my good friend says “Something has to give” While it is great to have goals, you have to look at the outcome verses what the effects are for the over slices in the pie or cheese cake (I like cheese cake).

Well within the cheese cake are various parts or slices that comprise of your life: family, friends, health, physical, psychological, mental and spiritual.
Ultimately life is about getting all these segments into balance, while each segment will vary in size throughout your life, it’s about getting them roughly equally weighted.
You may say well that person with the 100 meter motor yacht, apartment on 5th Ave, holiday homes in the Bahamas must be happy, well have a look at the other segments and see how they are tracking.

We live in the most or should I say we did the most prosperous generation on record with the personal wealth of society far greater than our parents and grand parents yet levels of depression are growing every year and numerous studies regarding people’s happiness over the past 50 years indicated a down ward spiral.
So have a look at your goals and where they fit into the cheese cake. Ultimately we need to have a balance in out life.

Switch your mind – switch your attitude. We believe this is the job, friends or life I can expect, change your belief system

Switch your mind – switch your attitude and change your belief system.

To often we believe this is the best job, the best friends or life I can expect however are we creating our own reality with these beliefs.
How often does complacency and mediocrity overpower us into limiting our true potential?
How often do you hear the comment, geez, they are lucky, they always get the best jobs or always win what ever contest they enter, you can easily add the word “luck” into the equation.

Is it coincidence that these people have good fortune or do they believe they will achieve a chosen outcome?
So why not switch mind set, change that attitude and belief system today.

Are you 40, 50 or 60+ & make excuses for lack of exercise, ask Bette Calman who at 83 has the strength & flexibility of someone half her age

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Next time before you make excuses for not looking after your body, think about how an 83 year old continues to teach yoga while having the strength and flexibility of someone half her age.
Our mind can take us anywhere but can equally be a limiting factor in pursuing our health and happiness.

No no excuses for lack of exercise, just ask Bette Calman.

What a story of self belief, Susan Boyle performs at Britains got talent TV show to overcome the audiences prejudice.

Well every now & then we experience something special that makes us question our own prejudices and truly believe that you can accomplish anything.
It’s all bout your belief systems and being positive.

While Susan doesn’t fit the usual mould for talent show contestants, her drive and self determination ultimately made her dreams come true.
With only a small record recording in the nineties, Susan’s spirit lifted her to another place, confronting her fears and overcoming the task of climbing her own Mt Everest.

So while Susan Boyle had the self belief to achieve amazing success, are you ready for change?

Work stress, information over load. Well I just had a liberating experience, accidently marked 150 unread emails as read, any great loss? No

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Suffering from work stress, getting information overload, too many emails?

With email a constant source of work stress & anxiety, how relieved was I that 150 unread emails that needed to be attended to merged into the 1000′s of other read emails.

Was this a disaster, a catastrophe, did people die, nope.
How often do we unnecessarily create stressful situations, place unrealistic expectations on ourselves to over achieve, to accomplish everything, to be a daily super human information processing machine?

Is your desk piled high with stuff to do, chances are that 90% of the pile will never be attended to, unless of course your planning on taking annual leave to work your way through the pile.

Is your desk neatly organised or a potential paper bomb fire?
How you organise your desk can be extrapolated to how you organise your life.

So do something today about work stress and reduce your information overload, delete some emails.
