Melbourne City Council introduces option to remove bicycles from Swanston St, the most busiest bicycles route in Melbourne

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

With traffic and public transport congestion on the increase, I don’t understand why the City of Melbourne would be discouraging people from riding there bicycle into the city or through the heart of the city.
This is detailed under Option 7 of there Swanston St redevelopment program.
Already riding into the city along St kilda Rd is a death trap, moving cyclists onto roads that don’t have the capacity to facilitate cyclists is a move in the wrong direction.

Coke Myth busted advertisement back flip on Coke not making you fat & doesn’t rot your teeth, finally accountability

Monday, April 6th, 2009

A very welcomed back flip from Coke regarding their myth ad on their initial myth busted advertisement last year.
It is interesting that this ad about Coke trying to dispel myths about their product initially passed the relevant advertising standards review board.

Lets only hope that their is a reduction in misleading advertising, especially surrounding such popular products as Coka Cola.

So thank you Coke for the Myth busted advertisement back flip.

Coke myth advertisement busted by ACCC for misleading the public: Coke will not contribute to weight, obesity or tooth decay

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

An ad featuring Kerry Armstrong about trying to bust the myths about Coke has been busted by the ACCC – Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for misleading the public.
The ACCC yesterday ordered Coca-Cola to publish corrections in newspapers around the country over its “Kerry Armstrong on motherhood and myth-busting” ad published last October.
It’s interesting that a can of 375ml coke contains 39.8 grams of sugar or 13 standard tea spoons.
Excess energy consumption leads to fat storage in the body so a rich sugary drink will not help the waistline.

I like this outcome as finally there is some accountability for making misleading nutritional statements:))))
Unfortunately this is an example of how self regulation doesn’t work as this had lead to the ACCC having Coke busted for misleading the public about their advertisement.

Local Melbourne council proposes 5m smoking ban from children’s playground to stop effects of secondhand smoke, need to extend to all areas

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

With a proposed $2000 fine for offenders, councils are finally acknowledging what we have all known, the harmful effects of secondhand smoke from cigarettes.

One thing I find amazing about this story is that by introducing the 5 meter smoking ban, the council is acknowledging that cigarette smoke can travel in a horizontal plan. This second smoke is also dangerous to children but to any person within close proximity to a smoker, be it at a childrens playground, a pub, restaurant, cafe or any other public space.

This really needs to be extended to all public space whether outside or in, including open areas in restaurants & pubs.

Well done Moreland Council:)))
