Has the government allowed our Elms to die???

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Well after a very dry summer, our poor drought affected trees have finally surcome to the lack of water.

Elms along Alexandra Parade near Birdwoods avenue were cut down and replaced by 2-3 meter saplings.

While the State and local governments were bickering over who should pay for the 30m dollar severage treatment plant underneath Princess Park, our magnificent elms were left to die. You see the treatment plant would have supplied enough water for all of the City of Melbourne’s parks.

BUT do parks generate income NO!!!! so why would the government spend money on providing & maintaining public areas that the community can enjoy when there is nothing in it for them.

Hey Bracksey, geez the Grand Prix keeps losing milions each year, no problem, just spend $30m to install lights to increase night time attendances to a level that was originally promised by Mr Walker and the major events department.

So trees will continue to die and Melbourne will continue to be blessed by major events that loose millions of dollars with no quantifyable means of measuring their success. Well FINA world championships were a great success, NO, don’t forget it “puts Melbourne on the map” because the other 6 major events dont???
