A good indicator if your are relaxed on your holidays: Have you stopped checking emails and switched the mobile off, being carefree

Friday, July 24th, 2009

A great indicator to test if you are relaxed, disconnected and carefree on your holidays is whether you stop checking for emails on your computer – internet cafe or switched the mobile phone off.
It is generally accepted that it takes 2 weeks to start switching off from the usual pace of life and start relaxing.

For some people, they have forgotten to learn how to relax or are torn between the guilt of not being in touch with work while trying to balance spending time relaxing with the family, friends or their partner.
Now a days with super gadgets that can do it all, being an MP3 player, alarm clock, camera, video recorder, diary, video entertainment, web browser and hand held gaming device, it’s hard to leave home without the mobile or alternatively, leave it switched off.

So you bring the mobile with you on the holidays BUT can you resist the irresistible temptation to check your emails just in case.

So we need start the relaxation process by disconnecting from the world. Solitude is good for the soul. Give your family your 100% attention without the technological distractions being present.

So at the end of your holidays, have you disconnected, use this as the indicator after your holidays to see whether you are relaxed and carefree.

Your children, it’s not about giving phones, games, ipods or other stuff but the one thing you can’t buy: your time, the most precious gift

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Most people are at some time or another guilty of reaching for the wallet but what children really need is the basic stuff to make them happy, your time.
While we live in a society where ones time becomes their most precious commodity, why not share some of it with your children.
Modern life is all about work, achieving, getting bigger and better but at the end of the day we may be neglecting the most precious part of our life.

Ask your self next time when you find you are too busy to spend time with your kids, what could be more important than your children’s happiness.
Usually all the other materialistic wants from children are amplified when we don’t spend enough quality time.
Everything we do has a price, updating to the latest & greatest, biggest & best = more money = more work = less time available to spend with the kids

With the pressure on to have the latest & greatest, is the McMansion style home placing unnecessary stress on our lives.
One common reason for divorce/separation is financial pressure with mortgage stress not helping the situation.

We are working longer hours and taking less time off.
Is Australia at risk of becoming known as a nation of workaholics?
The Australian governent has even introduced a campaign called “No Leave, No Life” to encourage workers to used accrued annual leave.

Say thank you to the street cleaner, it may make you happy as well

Health & Fitness is as much about the mind as the body.
Do something crazy every day, smile at the person who sells you the morning paper, thank the person who cleans the street of litter in the mornings, you never know, such a simple, genuine gesture may not only make their day but give you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Imagine if every person performed such a simple action, people may walk the streets smiling rather than wearing that unhappy face.

A state of hapiness have far more positive effects on the body rather than carrying anger and indifference to the world around you.

Are we really relaxing while on holidays?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

With the proliferation of modern communication technology are we really relaxing on our holidays?
Part of your health & well being is relaxing your mind as well as the body. With the advent of the mobile phone, the boundary of office hours becomes slightly blurred.
Having the possiblity of receiving a work related telephone call doesn’t allow the unconscious mind to truly switch off.
When you start feeling relax, it only takes a call from the office saying that “xyz has happened, what do we do” to disrupt the flow of relaxation.
The introduction of the Blackberry or crackberry as it is affectionately known due to its addictiveness means that you can be technically working if you are constantly responding or sending emails.
Not a very relaxing way to spend your holidays.
