Benefits of exercising after work

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

During the stretching component of our boot camp last night a few Fitmates were commenting on how much better they feel after a bit of exercise following a hard day at the office.

These days unfortunately the stresses of work are compounded by additional financial pressures with meeting mortgages and the costs of living in our modern society. Quite often we are time poor and we have limited opportunities for physical exertion with longer working days and balancing the home/family life. Australia actually is in the top 10 for the highest average hours worked per week.

The great thing that our Fitmates noted was while they were exercising they forgot about work and could begin to unwind from the days work activities. Even one Fitmate in particular had an amazing amount of energy that was redirecting captured energy from a heavy day at the office. Even the other Fitmate’s were suitably impressed by her awesome energy at knocking out punch after punch.

Unfortunately there is a rising number of people consuming an excessive amount of alcohol in many instances as way to “unwind” from the days work activities.

This increased alcohol consumption has attracted the attention of the government to introduce educational programs recommending that people have 2 alcohol free days per week. This is really saying that there is a proportion of the population that is drinking above the recommended daily intake of 2 standard drinks on a daily basis. What may surprise people that that big goblet of a wine glass may be well over a standard drink which is 100ml for red wine.

Another by product is insomnia for some people who cannot “switch off” and keep churning through the days activities and stresses.

So maybe try fitting in some exercise after work, even if it means going for a walk around the block or parking the car a little further from the railway station or office car park. You may be surprised how much better you feel:))

Winter Boot camp training outdoors the body warms up quickly

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

While the days may be getting colder and the temptation to hibernate indoors grows stronger, our winter boot camps have shown that the body warms up quickly.

Temperature drops but body warms up quickly

Cold night at Boot camp training

Although we had a bone shivering 8.7º degrees and everyone rugging up against the cold, it wasn’t long before everyone was done to T-Shirts and singlets.
The great thing about fitness training outdoors is the body is burning additional energy to maintain the core temperature. The cooler conditions provides an optimal balance between the heat generated by the body verses the cooling effect of the cooler air temperatures.

The greatest barriers to training outdoors in the cold weather isn’t the cooler air temperatures it’s what’s going through the mind. I have never had a client complain during a boot camp session that it’s too cold or the cooler temperatures are making them uncomfortable.

Think about when you’re up at the snow in the outdoor spa, maybe its -15º but within 10 minutes your sitting on the outside of the spa. Some people even roll around in the snow to cool down so it’s really just getting the body to the correct operating temperature.

Naomi Watts sent to Boot Camp for Fair Games movie

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Even Naomi Watts Sent is experiencing Boot Camp for her upcoming movie Fair Games with Sean Penn.

Even the movie starts are getting into Boot camp

The film centers on Naomi’s character Valerie Plame, a CIA agent who is outed during the Bush Administration’s handling of the weapons of mass destruction.

The role involved Naomi having to undergo strenuous physical training with a CIA Boot camp over 2 days.

Like our Boot camp parody, Doug Liman the director of Fair game commented “OK, get your ass into boot camp and toughen up, lady’.”
It was particularly interesting that Naomi was also breastfeeding while having to learn how to repack a weapon.

Amazing sunrise at Melbourne boot camp this morning, glowing reds

Friday, April 9th, 2010

A brilliant sunrise this morning at our Melbourne Boot camp, a glowing red background amongst the trees.

Very fortunate to experience these amazing sunrises

For most people, 6.00am is the one part of the day that is often missed. For those fortunate few who can make the journey from lying in their bed to placing their feet on the floor, (the hardest distance to travel in the morning), traveling to the park is quite easy.

While the mercury may be dipping below 10º, it doesn’t take long to warm up.

Funny Fitness Story missed boot camp Dynabolt through foot

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Received a great email why Phil missed Boot Camp last week “I forgot to email you – I put a dynabolt through my foot last week, and haven’t been able to walk properly, so we’ve been no shows cos of that”

I think we have a clear leader for out yearly funniest comment award.

Shoes and feet seem to feature prominently when it comes to reasons why Fitmates were unable to attend Boot Camp.
