Incredible sunrise at boot camp this morning

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

With our first true Autumn morning at boot camp, we had this incredible sunrise with the light filtering through the trees.

our first true Autumn morning with sunny skies

With Melbourne’s very wet & stormy Autumn, our water catchments will be enjoying the additional rain, although they are still low at just over 50%. Well it may be a while before we get another run of rain free sessions.

So if you live in them southern hemisphere then it’s a great time to get out and enjoy this magnificent weather, it’s just a start to come.

The awesome thing about a new season is the exciting range of new fruit and vegetables that are available fresh. So enjoy a great variety of fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, and stone fruit including peaches, plums and nectarines. The main thing to remember is try to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables of different colors as there generally different vitamins and minerals.

Rainy weather at Melbourne Boot camp last night – great for fitness training

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Great to see 7 Fitmates braving the rainy weather conditions to get to our Melbourne Boot camp last night. The outlook was bleak with heavy rain forecasted for Melbourne.
While some may feel this is extremely unappealing, with the cold wet conditions and the icy south westerly winds, it actually isn’t so bad once you get moving.

Considering it was a whole 8º, you can see from the pic that everyone is wearing T-Shirts. The body quickly warms up and those feelings resistance to the cooler temperatures quickly subside and the euphoria from the training takes over.

Training outdoors in Melbourne isn't so bad

So next time you’re considering the opportunity of training outdoors, all you need is a little bit of shelter providing protection away from the rain.
The whole experience isn’t so bad after all.

Melbourne Boot camp 2.5º this morning with frosty beanie

Friday, July 9th, 2010

This morning at Melbourne Boot camp it was a chilly 2.5º so cold that it created a frosty beanie with one of our 7am Fitmates.

Cold morning 2.5º at Melbourne Boot camp

The one thing that people forget is there is a small amount of discomfort initially when you arrive but within 10 minutes all the Fitmates are warmed up and down to singlets and t-shirts which was the case this morning.

One Fitmate was wearing a fibre pile jacket, gloves and beanie which she used in Nepal while trekking in Nepal. It wasn’t long before the jacket became like a sauna suit, ok if we were running bikram yoga style boot camps:)).

Oddly enough during the stretching/cool down at the end of the session I have to remind the Fitmates to put there jumpers, tops and beanies back on to avoid catching a cold.

Morning heart starter boot camp exercise or coffee

Friday, May 14th, 2010

At Boot camp this morning, a Fitmate was commenting that doing an exercise program in the morning charged her for the rest of the day.

While it may be challenging to get out of bed at 5.30am to get to a Boot camp or gym session for a 6am start, the benefits are huge.
The endorphins start flowing after 60 minutes of intense exercise, the blood is pumping around the body at a higher level promoting increased levels of oxygen saturation in the blood.

The other option is to make the daily stop over at the local cafe for that caffeine hit. While both options make you more alert and awake, the effects of caffeine eventually subside and you may collapse in a heap at your desk.

Solution grab another coffee for morning tea. Mmmmmm, not a great choice but the other option of sneaking in some exercise may be worth considering.
An alternative for the time poor may be to consider riding a bicycle to work, depending on the intensity, you can get an effective workout as well while avoiding the stress and chaos of venturing onto our congested roads and public transport system.

Worried about being hot & sweaty, there are options available.

Lightening storm boot camps don’t mix

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Spectacular fireworks in the sky, while the storm was well south, the lightening was clearly visible. Unfortunately massive storms and Boot camp don’t mix so we canceled the session.

Great radar image to see extent of Melbourne storm

Crazy weather at Bootcamp last night with massive storm across Melbourne

Well done to those brave souls who made it to the start of the session, with the storm brewing it was a little safer to retreat to the comforts of our homes. I trust everyone went home and did a solid hour of exercise in lieu of the canceled Boot camp:)).

We are very fortunate with our North Fitzroy Boot camp at Edinburgh Gardens as it rarely rains during our sessions. Last night was another example of how this nasty storm swept through Melbourne’s southern suburbs but missed our area. (although we desperately need the rain for the gardens).

The storm kept heading south east and left a nice clear patch in the inner northern suburbs.

Our weather in Melbourne is stating to resemble the warm humid temperatures that they get up Northern Australia, so Melbourne is becoming the new Brisbane.
