What will they say at your funeral?

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

An interesting story about the what someone would say about you at your funeral.

A friend attended her mothers funeral over the weekend, 500 people attended from the local town and interstate, only 5 years earlier her father passed away with 700 people attending.

Both parents were very active with there local schools, long after the kids had left, the local choir, fund raising drives and community projects, they were both very respected and valued.

As she started talking to an older gentleman about the eulogy and what a wonderful life that her mother had they got chatting about what they did for work.

The older gentleman, lets call him Jack, he said that he had a massive career change 20 years earlier following an earlier conversation he had regarding what would be said at his funeral. Jack had a extremely senior position with Microsoft that was extremely demanding but paid accordingly.

Well Jack commented that his eulogy would make reference to what a wonderful project manager he was, that he delivered the projects on time and on budget, that he was committed to the company and was devoted employee.

From that moment Jack decided to make a change to his life, he immediately resigned finally acknowledging that work only represented part of his life, that it also included his wonderful family, loving wife, fantastic children and an interest in golf and always wonderful things that will push aside to accommodate his 10 to 15 hour days.

Within a short period Jack found employment with a company that acknowledged that work only represented part of a person’s life, that the company would invest time and resources into helping develop the employees personal lifestyle. Ultimately an employee having a poor personal life would adversely effect their performance and happiness in the work environment so the work/life balance was paramount.

Every employee from the CEO down to the receptionist worked a standard 9 to 5 day, if there was a requirement to work past 5 PM, then it was concluded that one of the following had happened;

1.The employee was not working efficiently and therefore needed additional hours complete the required work
2.That the employee was under resourced to complete the job, that the person should have enlisted the help of more people to ensure that the job will be completed within the assigned time parameters.
3.That the job assigned employee was not appropriate based on his level of expertise or skill set.

This was the watershed moment that changed Jack’s life forever.
Quite often we are caught up in life, through achievement, or upgrading/updating our stuff, bigger house, a new car, the latest and greatest home entertainment system, the newest phone etc.
We just sometimes need the catalyst to start the ball rolling.

Ultimately does all of this stuff or those achievements bring you happiness in life, or is it more about the people around you, the relationships that you have and what you give out to those around you in your local community.

What will they say at your funeral?

What an inspirational Person, “every day is a blessing and it’s great to be alive

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

This person was inspirational, she was working in a café in Melbourne to help pay her way through University. Being a long way her home in Mauritius, her family and friends with very little money, she said that everyday is a blessing and its great to be alive, that she is so thankful for everyday, that she meets so many great people and that life is good.

Having a positive attitude, creates positive thoughts that bring more positiveness and happiness.

Is liposuction being marketed as a non evasive surgery just like going to the dentist for some teeth whitening?

Monday, June 15th, 2009

More and more liposuction is being marketing as the wonder cure for getting rid of all those wobbly bits on the body, under the arms, the chin, neck, stomach, thighs, butts and chest.

The scary part is that the marketing of such services is now being aimed at men but where will it end.
If the patient resumes their normal lifestyle will all the wobbly bits simple move to another area of the body?

“Something good will come from this”, a great story of how having an open mind leads to unexpected positive events. Believe good things happen

I heard a great story about a King who loved to go deer hunting, back in the dark ages.
Going deer hunting was an activity the King used to relax and remove him self from the regular pressures of running the kingdom.
Due to the responsibilities of being the King, his fabled deer hunting activities were no more so the Queen enlisted the help of a person known to have good fortune and luck. Such luck would help the King find the deer (apparently deer are hard to find as the bow and arrow is there natural enemy).
So off the King went one day to hunt deer with this person of good luck, within no time had they entered the forest that a deer appeared, the King drew his bow and within seconds the deer had fallen victim to the Kings arrow, unfortunately the deer was still alive so the King went to his faithful bearer of good fortune and asked for a knife to ends the deers suffering.

In a moment of haste, the man of good fortune dres his knife and in the process cut the finger tip of the Kings finger. “What have you done, you are useless, this is not good fortune, off to the dungeons for you” expelled the King, “Something good will come from this” said the person of good fortune.

This only antagonised and infuriated the King even more, so the person of good fortune repeated “Something good will come from this”.

Well off to the dungeon he went, with the person of good fortune “Something good will come from this”.
After a few weeks passed, the King decided to go deer hunting again but this time alone, off he went deep into the forest. Not a deer to be seen so he continued deeper and deeper, before long he was lost, it was getting darker and the all mighty King was getting a little concerned.

Before long he heard some voices in the distance, louder and louder the voices got until he was surrounded by savages.
The leader of the tribe was most happy with his find as the tribe performed regular sacrifices to the gods for continued good fortune. Sacrificing a King was the ultimate offering to the gods so soon the King was in the middle of a Bon fire. The leader of the tribe went to the King and noticed that he was missing his finger tip, “well we cannot make a sacrifice when the person is incomplete, without their finger tip.

So they untied the King and sent him on his way.
Back in the kingdom the King went back to the dungeon to tell the person of good fortune that he was right about something good will come off this. he apologised for the appalling conditions of only bread and water.

The person of good fortune said to the King that something good happened for him as he could have been with the King and been sacrificed:)))

So the moral of the story is you never quite know how one event will effect future events.
As there were hundreds of events that lead to the King losing his finger, there were equally a lot of events since and more events in the future.

What a great sight:))
While I’II see a lot of selfish acts, ie people not offering their seat to a pregnant woman or the more senior members of our society on public transport, I was touch by this kind act, the fact that this guy took the time to offer assistance, Awesome!!!
Once a week, 2-3 times a week, or better still once a day go out of your way to perform one selfless act, it will not only give you a warm fuzzy feeling but it makes the world a better place.
