$1500 raised from 15 people – awesome result

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

What a fantastic achievement! A combined total of $1500 was raised from 15 people attending our 6 week running program – an awesome result.

The Running group with Michael Bellofiore

With one training session left leading up to the Melbourne Marathon, Michael Bellofiore from Moonee Ponds and Joel Mautner from Richmond/Elwood have done an amazing job.  They’ve very kindly donated their time and energy to help generate enough interest to raise funds for Beyond Blue, a great organisation dedicated to supporting those affected by depression. Beyond Blue will also hold a national mental health week from the 9th to 15 October.

Melbourne leader newspaper featureing Michael Bellofiore

Michael was recently featured in a local Melbourne newspaper promoting our special running group and building awareness of this fantastic cause.

Thank you also to the generosity of EZ Facility who allowed us to use  their scheduling and billing software at no charge.

Unusual exercise – chased by Killer Koala

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I got some unusual exercise on the weekend while we were camping in the Otway National Park, I was chased by a killer koala!.

IWe were observing a territorial issue among a group of koalas, and in order to get front row seats to the drama, I started to move to a better viewing spot just as one of the koala’s started coming down the tree. With limited time to get into the perfect position I decided to save some precious seconds by not buckling my sandals.

This was okay initially, as I was only planning on walking around the corner for the better vantage point. But, before I knew it, there was a scurry in the bushes and one big scary killer koala appeared in my midst.

The koala races out from the bush

Koals too close for comfort

Both the killer koala and myself were caught off guard, but once he/she composed itself and realised it might be under attack, it made a charge for me. This was a bit disconcerting as I was only about a metre away and had visions of its two inch black claws scratching my legs, or worse still, it trying to climb my body.

So I did what any hero would do in such circumstances – I ran for my life. However, in all the excitement I forgot that my sandals were only partially buckled, and after a mere five or ten metres I tripped and made a fast crashing descent, gouging my knees and wrist into the ground. My newly acquired Canon S95 digital compact camera was also damaged in the fall and I now have a $300 repair bill.

Well killer koala turned out to be not such a killer after all, it was frightened by all the noise and decided on a quick retreat back into the bushes.

So, these pictures cost me $300, but on a positive note I have an awesome story about an unusual type of exercise!

5k & 10k running time table per km fun run

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Looking at entering that next fun run and don’t know what pace you need to set to achieve a set time over the course.

Well we now have a great timetable you can print off that will give you an idea of your running pace for a 10km run from 40 minutes to 1.10 or for the 5km pace from 18.50 to 32.58.

A great way to build up the foundation for strength and speed is interval training whereby you perform short bursts of high intensity training.

If you live in Melbourne, we have listed all the current fun runs.
