Portsea Swim Classic

The Portsea Swim Classic is one of the largest open water swims held in Australia. This L shaped course covers 1.2Km and will be held on Saturday 19th January 2008 at the Portsea Front Beach, Nepean Highway, Portsea (Melways Ref 156 E2).

Registration is on the lawn adjacent to the Portsea Pier from 8:30am until 30 minutes prior to race start time. The event attracts up to 2,500 swimers in age groups from 12-17 right through to 60+ with past winners include some of the greats of Australian swimming.

Each competitor will receive a souvenir 100% cotton BLAZER t-shirt, swim cap, certificate and products from our sponsors including Splitrock and Bulla.

To enter the Portsea Swim Classic you can enter online or download a copy of the entry form. Alternatively, the entry form will be available from Blazer Clothing outlets, Sorrento Hotel, Portsea Hotel and most Melbourne metropolitan swimming pools in late November.

Prizes

Numerous random prize draws during the course of the day.
Prizes and/or trophies will be presented to all age division placegetters.
NOTE: to be eligible for random prizes participants must have entered in accordance with 'Entries Close' below and must also be in attendance at presentation in person to collect random prizes.

Race Entry


$35 (GST inclusive) online and postal entries must be received prior to entry close date.
$40 (GST inclusive) on the day (numbers permitting)
Note: Cheques will not be accepted on the day.
Entry fees are non-refundable.

Entries Close

Postal entries close last mail Thursday, 11th January 2007, or place in mail box at Portsea SLSC clubhouse kiosk by 5:00pm, Sunday 14th January 2007.
Online entries close 5.00pm Wednesday 17th January 2007

Race Kit

Timing


Each competitor will be issued with a transponder which they will be required to wear around their ankle at all times during the race.

On lawn area adjacent to Portsea Pier commencing 8:30am and closing 30 minutes prior to your race start time.

15 minutes prior to your swim start time.

Car Parking

Special car parking facilities have been arranged at Kerr Reserve, Police Point, just inside the main gates at the end of Point Nepean Road. Melways ref: 156 C2. A shuttle bus service will be provided to transport swimmers and spectators from the car park at Pt Nepean, the short distance to the Portsea Pier. Please take advantage of the arranged car parking facilities in order to avoid a costly fine by parking inappropriately.

Results

Results will be available online here as well as being published on Sunday, 21 January 2007.

Swim Safety

During the Portsea Swim Classic, qualified surf life savers will monitor swimmers safety from the water. Please do not hesitate to call for assistance if required by raising your arm in the air.
Medical assistance is readily available on the beach.
Consider wearing a wetsuit for extra warmth.
To maximise your safety during your race, you will be placed in a colour-coded swim group according to your anticipated swim time. It is imperative that all entrants swim in their nominated cap colour-coded group.

Note: Some tidal movement may be experienced in the area of the swim. However, the timing of the swim has been set to maximise your safety.
