The Experience

The granite peaks of the You Yangs Regional Park offers some easily accessible off road action, only 55k south west of central Melbourne and only 22 km north of Geelong. The hill top trails provide some awesome views of Melbourne and the coast for our running sections, with the mountain biking in the Western Plantation and the Stockyards – fast becoming one of the most developed MTB areas in Victoria.
So get off road and get training - and dont forget to tell your mates!

Location

The tri X duo is set over and around the granite peaks of the You Yangs Regional Park located just 55km south-west of Melbourne centre.

The You Yangs is a well known formation of granite rock that rises dramatically over the Werribee plains. These peaks dominate the local landscape and provide a magnificent view over the Melbourne region.

Although the You Yangs is only 352m in height, Parks Victoria together with the Geelong Mountain Bike Club have designed trails that make full use of the elevation and that provide awesome Mountain Biking experience that caters to riders of all abilities.

We have also been granted access to some of the famed You Yang walking tracks to host the run legs of the tri X duo. These walks command some fabulous views over the Werribee plans and will ensure this race is one to remember.

So hurry up and sign up for what is shaping up to be a fantastic event.
Maps of Region

Access to the Park is via the Princes Freeway, and is clearly signposted from Little River or Lara (Melways Reference pg 11 C11).

The Race base (Registration, Start, Finish and Transitions) is at the Turntable Car Park, approximately 2km from the main entrance to the park. Look out for the tri X signs.

Course Description

The tri X duo offers a run – bike – run format, with the 11k run split into two sections, and the MTB capturing the best bits of both ends of the You Yangs park.

Trail Run 1 (6km)

Right from the start the You Yangs provides a great off road running experience, with plenty of trails through a variety of landscapes and scenery, keeping you guessing but still allowing you to soak up the surroundings.
Individuals carry on to take on the MTB and second run leg, teams of 2 can choose to do 1 or 2 legs each.

MTB (20km)

The MTB leg takes in the Great Circle Drive and the Stockyards MTB area, offering some wider tracks, but also some cool single track work. Reasonably flat and fast to start, and some trickier trails and hills as you go. The Geelong MTB Club guys and girls have put a lot of work into these trails, so come and enjoy!

Trail Run 2 (5km)

More to discover through the bush and forest trails, around Flinders Peak and back to the start / finish area. You will enjoy this off road adventure!

As with all tri X courses this has been specifically designed to cater for all levels of ability, if you want to enjoy the scenery that's great, and if you want to go hard - you won't be disappointed.
