Runner's World Sandy Point Half 2008
When: Sunday 17 August 2008
Where: Trey Bit Reserve, Sandringham
Distances: 21.1km and 10km run or 7km walk
Set yourself a new running target with Melbourne's most scenic half marathon, the Runner's World Sandy Point Half. A fast, flat course overlooking Port Phillip Bay, starting in Jettys Road, Sandringham and travelling along Beach Road on a two lap out and back course finishing on the Trey Bit Reserve.
The course:
Is closed to traffic however some vehicles may access
the course. Running or walking north from the start you will use one
of the two outbound lanes of Beach Road. The lane nearest the
houses is a southbound 40kph transit lane for vehicles wishing
to exit their houses or businesses. Do not run or walk in this lane.
Running or walking south from the turnaround point at Bay Street
(The 7km walk turnaround is at Keith Court) you will use the two
lanes of Beach Road closest to the beach. The 10km run and 7km
walk are out and back courses, finishing in Jetty Rd. The half
marathon continues past Jetty Rd on the first lap to the southern
turn a round at Bay rd (Only for the first lap, on the second lap
enter Jetty Rd to the finish).
Walkers:
The 7km walk is a non-competitive, participation event.
There will be no prizes for the first walker across the line. To
compensate, we reserve more random spot prizes for our walk
participants.
Start times:
Because of safety issues leaving Jetty Rd the half
marathon, 10km runners and 7km walkers will be sent off in this
manner:
7:30am: all runners expecting to r un between 1:00 and 1:45 minutes
7:32am: all runners expecting to run between 1:45 and 2.00 minutes
7:34am: all other runners
8:00am: all runners expecting to run between 28:00 minutes and 49:59 including
8:02am: all other runners
8:05am: all walkers
Presentation ceremony:
Trophies awarded to male and female
winners of the half marathon and 10km run events. Age group
category medals will not be presented on the day. They will be
mailed within two weeks.
