When: Saturday 15th November.
Where: Docklands to Donvale following the Yarra River.
Distances: 50km team, 50km individual or relay (30km each).
The Upstream 50km Challenge is a great way to enjoy a great day out with your friends or collegues, get fit and have fun and most importantly help build new hope for sufferers of depression in Australia, "water for life" in Cambodia or vocational opportunities for leprosy sufferers in India.
Course:
The Walk starts at the Telstradome in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct. It then progresses along a 50km route in the Melbourne Metropolitan area, making use of the scenic walking routes along the Yarra River. Four checkpoints break the 50km into 10km sections. The Walk concludes at Donvale Christian College for celebrations, food and an awards presentation.
Cost:
You'll need to register by Saturday 1st November. There is no registration fee, but each individual walker must commit to donating or raising a minimum of $200.
Participants can enter the event in three different ways; register for the 50km Challenge as an individual or as a team or enter as a relay team.
Individual Entry:
walk the entire 50km at your own pace.
Team Entry:
walk the entire 50km as a team. Teams can be made up of any number of people with a maximum of 6. Teams MUST stick together throughout the event, so if you are at different fitness levels or speed, we suggest you register as an individual.
Relay Entry:
walk the 50km as a relay. Relay teams require a minimum of 2 (and a max of 10) people and each member must walk a minimum of 30km during the duration of the 50km. Teams will need to have someone walking at all times over the 50km but each individual does not need to complete the 30km in one continuous go.
Participants walking either indivdually or as a team entry in the 50km Challenge who work for a company or organisation can also take part in the inaugural Corporate Cup. (You can still qualify for the 'Corporate Cup' if you are walking in a team with people from a different company/organisation.)
The Corporate Cup is a new element to the Upstream 50km Challenge. When more than one participant in the event is from the same company or organisation, they will automatically be entered into the 'Corporate Cup'. The two fastest individual times from the same company or organisation will form the entry and compete for the Corporate Cup Trophy and the honour of being named the fastest corporate team.
Rules:
1. Individuals must raise a minimum of $200 to participate in the walk.
3. All participants in a 50km team or relay team must be over the age of 12.
4. Each team member walking as a relay must walk at least three sections (30km)
5. A ‘change of team member' form must be completed for 50km teams and relay teams prior to the start of the event for
