Health & Nutrition >> Health Articles >> news article templatesNews >> Commercial Fitness operators Forum re City of Yarra proposed Permit

With the recent introduction of a draft proposal for the regulation of commercial fitness operators for the City of Yarra, we have organised a forum to address councils concerns and to represent a unified voice.

We seek to to achieve a sustainable future for commercial fitness operators while maintaining a workable solution that allows small business to be a sustainable and dynamic part of the local community.

We am organising a forum titled

"Introduction of Permits for Personal Trainers and Commercial Fitness Operators in Parks /Gardens/Reserves"

This will represent those commercial operators currently engaged in outdoor fitness activities in the City of Yarra, surrounding municipalities, representatives from the peak fitness bodies: Fitness Australia and Kinect Australia and fitness employment agencies.
In attendance will also be those involved in the licensing of tour operators on Crown land

What is proposed

• Personal training of 4 sessions per week at 14/22 parks and a maximum of 4 permits per park, $200/ 6 month permit
• Group exercise classes between 3 - 6 people with only 4 sessions per week at only 12/22 parks, with between 2 -3
permits issued per park, $600/ 6 month permit
• Group exercise classes between 7 - 15 people with only 2 sessions per week allowed at only 3/22 parks, $1000/ 6
   month  permit
• The minimal amount of distance that must be kept throughout personal training activities  from other structures in a
park is 4 metres, these structures may include but are not limited  to;  a) Paths – Walking or bicycle tracks.

What does this mean for the public?

Unless we initiate a workable solution that allows small business to be a sustainable and a dynamic part of the local community, these proposed by laws will effectively stop legitimate businesses from operating while encouraging rogue operators.

We am organising a forum titled "Introduction of Permits for Personal Trainers and Commercial Fitness Operators in Parks /Gardens/Reserves"

This will represent those commercial operators currently engaged in outdoor fitness activities in the City of Yarra, surrounding municipalities, representatives from the peak fitness bodies: Fitness Australia and Kinect Australia and fitness employment agencies.
In attendance will also be those involved in the licensing of tour operators on Crown land.

The objectives of this forum are to:

1.Identity key issues

2.Provide a workable solution that balances the needs of the community, park users, Yarra Council and commercial operators.
Addressing key areas of concern:
a.Code of Conduct
b.Pricing structure
c.Park capacity
d.Park infrastructure
e.Risk management assessment
f. Access issues
g.Licensing process

j. Public Liability issues

3.Timeline to fully investigate and implement a Business Impact assessment
and consultation with other municipalities, commercial fitness operators, local
