After 2 years since the initial consultation about introducing permits, Yarra Council has passed the local law outlining the requirements for commercial fitness operators.

It's great to see that Yarra Council have taken a common sense approach to balancing the needs of the local community, park users and commercial fitness operators.

The listing of available parks has been expanded with a more realistic breakdown of group numbers up to 20 participants.

In summary, the permit restricts operators to within defined limits of park amenities and assets.
Yarra council will be contacting all those who registered for the public forums by email with a notice that applications will be accepted from the 7th September and the commencement of a 6 month trial from the 21st September 2009.

The local law also outlines a nominal penalty for breaching any of the 7 outlined offences ranging from negatively impacting on park users to failing to carry a permit.

Our parkland's are playing a greater role with increasing levels of urban density and an explosion of obesity levels. Giving people the opportunity to engage in supervised outdoor fitness benefits the greater community.
