Where: Docklands to Donvale following the Yarra River.
Distances: 50km team, 50km individual or relay (30km each).
Course:
The Walk starts at the Waterfront City in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct and then heads along a 50km route in the Melbourne Metropolitan area, enjoy the scenic walking routes along the Yarra River. 4 checkpoints break the 50km into 10km sections. The Walk finishes at Donvale Christian College for celebrations, food and an awards presentation.
Cost:
You'll need to register by Friday, 30th October 09. There is no registration fee, but each individual walker must commit to donating or raising a minimum of $200.
Individual Entry:
Walk the 50km as an individual at your own pace.
Team Entry:
Walk the 50km as a team, made up of people with a maximum of 6. Bear in mind that teams MUST stick together throughout the event, so if you are at different fitness levels or speed, you need to take this into consideration.
Relay Entry:
Walk the 50km as a relay, a relay team requires a minimum of 2 (and max of 10) participants. Each member must walk a minimum of 30km during the 50km. Your teams will need to have someone walking at all times over the 50km but each individual does not need to complete the 30km in one continuous go.
You can also complete the walk on behalf of a company or organisation. Join companies/organisations together and participate in the 'Corporate Cup'.
Rules:
1. Individuals must raise a minimum of $200 to participate in the walk.
2. Each team member walking as a relay must walk at least three sections (30km)
3. All participants in a 50km team or relay team must be over the age of 12.
4. Identification will be provided to all participants and must be worn and clearly displayed at all times during the event.
5. A ‘change of team member' form must be completed for 50km teams and relay teams prior to the start of the event for
any changes to the team. No changes will be allowed once the event is in progress.
6. Each participant must be self-sufficient and it is therefore highly recommended to have a support crew. The support crew is responsible for providing food, water and changes of clothes etc. during the event.
7. There are five checkpoints along the trail including the finish, each participant must checkin with event staff at each checkpoint before continuing on.
8. Any participant who is injured must call the Upstream 50km Challenge emergency number, which will be provided closer to the event.
9. If you want to withdraw during the event, you must first report to the nearest checkpoint.
10. In order to withdraw, the participant must complete a retirement certificate at one of the checkpoints.
11. If a participant has not departed a checkpoint by the nominated closing time, the participant will be withdrawn from the event and advised not to proceed. If you choose to do so, it will be at your own risk.
12. Do not drop litter. Participants and Support Crews must respect the environment and use the litter and recycling bins at the checkpoints.
13. Smoking is not permitted on the trail or at checkpoints due to Parks Victoria regulations.
14. Dogs are not permitted on the Walk as parts of the track are on Park Victoria land which don't allow dogs.
