Take steps against poverty – join a Walk Against Want near you and raise funds for Oxfam Australia’s work against poverty and injustice.

Walk name: Bayside

Where: Sandy Beach Community Centre, corner Sims Street and Black Road. 100 metres south of Bay Road, Sandringham.

There are three beautiful Bayside walks to choose from: 5km, 9km and 16km walks. Each takes in foreshore areas and features stunning views. The two shorter walks explore the historic Gypsy village and the longer one takes you down the original tramway track between Sandringham Station and Beaumaris. The 16km route is suitable for cyclists and travels through bushland parks.

Where: Scout Hall, Pakenham Street, Blackburn.

Starting and finishing at the Pakenham Street Scout Hall, walk, jog or cycle through the beautiful Blackburn Creeklands Reserve, taking in Blacks Walk, Gardiners Creek and Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, with an abundance of birds, native bush and parkland. Choose from 4.5km, 6.5km or 13km routes. Refreshments provided en route and a free sausage sizzle at the end of the walk.

The Williamstown walk starts at the Life Saving Club, better known as the Pearl Bay Courthouse from the TV series Seachange. Choose to walk or cycle east or west from the Clubhouse and return via the same route. The eastern walk offers a historical, cultural and culinary perspective of the Williamstown foreshore taking walkers past the historic Time Ball Tower and piers to Nelson Place. The western walk is for nature enthusiasts, winding its way past the boat harbour, mangroves, bird hides and lakes. Refreshments will be available back at the Clubhouse until 12.30pm
