Walk against Warming 2009
Where: State Library Melbourne
When: 12th December 2009
Join up to 20,000 other people to send a message about the effects of climate change
Join this year’s Walk Against Warming, and help form a massive HUMAN SIGN over Princes Bridge. A sign so big, they’ll get our message all the way over in Copenhagen.
The Walk Against Warming is Australia’s biggest day of community action on climate change. Over the last four years, we’ve mobilised 100,000 Victorians to walk against warming, and for a safe climate future.
Go to www.waw.org.au for more information and to RSVP – that way, we’ll be able to plan the massive human sign and send you a reminder and any updates before the walk.
THEY NEED YOUR HELP!
We need to gather tens of thousands of people to this year’s Walk Against Warming to help show our world leaders that Australian’s are calling for action for a safe climate.
To do that, we need all Victorians concerned about climate change and a safe climate future to come along. We know that Victorians care about climate change, but they can’t come to the Walk if they don’t know about it!
We’ve got thousands of posters and flyers to hand out, and we need you to help promote the Walk in your community. Can you put posters up around your street, in your community, or at your workplace or school? Can you hand out flyers at church or to your mothers group? If so, please contact Trier at admin@envict.org.au.
ATTENTION: Calling all School Students!
Could you be the Walk Against Warming Ambassador for your school?
Make it your job to get your school to support the Walk, and get as many of your fellow students as possible to come along. We can organise someone to come and talk to your school assembly about climate change and the Walk, plus send you flyers and posters to distribute. Register your interest by emailing your name and school to tricia@envict.org.au
The Federal Government’s flawed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is due to be debated again in Parliament next week. Environment Victoria believes that there are a number of fundamental flaws that need to fixed, and that the government should go back to the drawing board to get it right.
The Liberal National Coalition is trying to take the CPRS from bad to worse, but what we really need is for the scheme to be fixed.
Environment Victoria is part of a coalition of environment, consumer and energy groups working together to try and fix one of the fundamental flaws in the Rudd Government’s scheme.
One of the key design flaws means the extra bits we do as individuals to reduce emissions – like purchasing GreenPower or installing solar panels on your roof – will not actually count towards reducing Australia’s total emissions. Instead it will make it cheaper for aluminium smelters, cement factories and coal-fired power stations to keep on polluting.
Together, we can ensure that the actions of all individuals, households and small businesses who are trying to reduce emissions actually make a difference, by further reducing Australia’s emissions rather than making life easier for big polluters.
Join the Make Your Climate Action Count campaign today, and sign the petition at http://yourclimateaction.wordpress.com/petition/
Stay tuned as this campaign continues to grow. Know anyone else frustrated by the government’s continued obsession with polluting coal? Forward them this newsletter. By signing up, they’ll stay up to date with what they can do to help take real action on climate change.
