Genetically modified soy & foods
What's requirred in Australia and the USA
Many soybean crops in the USA are genetically modified to be herbicide resistant. This means herbicide can be sprayed over the crop without killing
the soybeans.
Genetically modified (GM) soy can be found in foods such as soy flour, margarine and mayonnaise.
Foods sold in Australia that contain GM ingredients must be labelled accordingly, and only GM ingredients that have been pre-approved and assessed for safety can be sold in this country.
Soy foods often state on the label they are made from non-genetically modified soy.
