Looking for an alternative to gym based resistance programs and indoor group fitness classes, well boot camp may be a great weight to lose weight and burn fat

The army style of training or boot camp as it commonly known has evolved and been adapted by many fitness professionals as a great what of burning energy and fat.

Ultimately when it comes to weight loss and increasing your fitness levels, you must challenge your muscles and cardiovascular system to help stimulate the appropriate response.

The Boot camp style of training involves using interval based training techniques whereby you keep the heart elevated for short periods of time. This can be accomplished by performing a nominated exercise for 60-90 seconds followed by an explosive movement for the same period. Typically this involves a short burst of running to a specified point and back followed by another exercise for 60-90 seconds.

The main objective is to fire up the bodies energy systems and metabolism to become a more efficient fat burning machine. The types of exercises involve using major muscle groups or more functional based exercises. For the duration of the boot camp session the participant is moving between cardiovascular and strength type fitness activities.

By making rapid and frequent changes between different types of exercises, more muscle fibres are recruited leading to more demands on the bodies energy systems which equates to burning more fuel.

For many people the gym offers a mixture of cardiovascular and resistance training however usually the bodies movement is restricted to the plain in which the machine or apparatus operates within. Running on the treadmill may seem to be a challenging workout but by maintaining a constant movement of the arms and the legs, the lungs, heart and muscles are not being stimulated or challenged. By working out in an outdoor environment, you are having over overcome inertia to slow down the body to come to a complete stop or to change direction rapidly.

Most boot camps are conducted outdoors in an area where there is sufficient open space for the participant to get to terminal speed before slowing down again. Common locations may be sporting ovals, large garden lawns and the beach where the sand adds an extra dimension of difficulty. The equipment can vary from the more military type props such as truck tyres and heavy ropes to the more civilian variety of hand weights, medicine balls, skipping ropes and cones for agility based drills.

The participants can also do a variety of body weight exercises such as squats, lunges, jumping jacks, bur-pees and push-ups.

Group sizes can vary from 6 people to 60 with the support and motivations from other boot campers to help people push themselves a lot harder by adding an element of competition.

However like any form of intense exercise, the boot camper must have the appropriate medical clearance when they fall within particular parameters and a base level of fitness.

Preparation is the key and it is of upmost importance that the participant warms up thoroughly as like a car engine, it you suddenly step on the accelerator before warming up the engine, you are liable to cause damage or wear.

Overall boot camps offer a great way to get fantastic weight loss and fat burning results.
