Pier to Pub 2011
When: Saturday, 8th of January 2011
Where: Lorne Life Saving Club, Lorne, Victoria (Page 518, G8 in Melways)
Distance: 1.2kms
The famous Pier to Pub funded by nib kicks off, on the 8th of January 2011, in which competitors must swim a total of 1.2 km, in the open waters of Louttit Bay. In the past the event has attracted over 4,000 competitors, and was in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest open water swim.
Due to the large demand, entries done via a ballot (including Sharkbait members) open 2 months earlier on Monday the 1st of November.
Hand these in quickly as the ballot and Sharkbait members entries close by Friday the 12th of November. 3 days later those who entered the ballot will be notified if they were successful in the first round, if so you will have 2 weeks to pay the entry fee ($52 for both adults and children.) If not, there is still hope, as you will be instantly placed on a waiting list for the second ballot.
You will be notified if you passed for the second ballot, this time however you will only have one week to pay. And if you are not picked, you’re once again placed on a waiting list for the final ballot. The final ballot, will be drawn on the 6th of December, if you are picked, you have only a week to pay. For those who haven’t succeeded, you will still be on a waiting list, and if there are any vacant spots by 31st of December, random participants on the waiting list will be selected, and as usual you only have one week to pay. Unfortunately, you will have to miss out, if you’re not picked by then, as that was your last chance. Remember the Nib Mountain to Surf is the day before, and could be an alternative.
On the race day (8th of January), it is important to turn up half an hour before a race in the pier car park, for marshalling. You will also have an opportunity, to place your gear on a truck, which can be collected to the left of the Lorne Club House.
Once completed, place getters (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will have to hang around the finish line for a presentation, otherwise your results can be found on www.lornesurfclub.com and published in the Sunday Herald Sun.
Good Luck!
PS: Entries are done via your accounts at www.lornesurfclub.com. Upon registering you have the choice to race in your age category and/or the Superfish (open to all ages) Category. Sharkbait members (people who have swum the Pier to Pub for 10 or more years) go through a different process.
