Looking for a ‘G personal best
For those looking to run a personal best half marathon or 10km at The Age Run to the G 2007, one ingredient in the mixture is often overlooked or in short supply – races leading into the big day.
No amount of training prepares you for a big performance like a race.
The elements in racing are often so different to your training – you may wear racing flats instead of training shoes, you may race early morning when normal training is late afternoon, you may race on all bitumen when your muscles are used to much softer training surfaces, and you have a heightened level of excitement.
So the best way to prepare for a personal best is to race a few times before the big performance.
And for those looking forward to the ‘G on Sunday, 17 June, the Dandy Creek Dash in Jells Park on Sunday, 22 April is one of the few lead-up events on the calendar.
Offering a 5 or 10km it’s the perfect measuring stick for your training for the ‘G.
Ultimate challenges for the new wave
As Australia is swept along in its own unique second running boom, the great challenges for most runners are initially to finish a 10km run and then ultimately a half marathon.
And in Melbourne your best opportunity to achieve either in the new year will be The Age Run to the G 2007.
With what most agree is Melbourne’s best inner city running course, The Age Run to the G 2007 is set for Sunday, 17 June, with a revised start time for each individual event.
Starting at Federation Square, the half marathon is expected to draw more than 2000 runners for the two lap course. It will kick off the morning at 7:15am followed by the 5km run/walk at 8:45am and the, 10km run/walk at 10.00am giving each event its’ own designated course time.
The half marathon finish will remain on Princes Bridge while both the 10km and 5km events will finish in Birrarung Marr.
A total of 12,000 runners and walkers are expected to join Victoria’s premier fitness event.
The Start to Finish training sessions will recommence at The Atrium, Federation Square on Wednesday, 10 January and Saturday, 13 January.
