Workout For Your Bones is an awareness and fundraising campaign that we’re holding in National Healthy Bones week in August. This is a chance to help us spread the message that bones love exercise! We all need to maintain healthy bones throughout our adult years, and regular weight bearing exercise is one of the keys to prevent developing osteoporosis in later life.
How you can get involved:
If you run a fitness club or you’re a health professional, you can hold special Workout For Your Bones events for your clients:
- Hold special weight bearing exercise classes during Healthy Bones Week, provide your clients with information about the benefits of exercise in preventing osteoporosis, and donate part of the proceeds to Osteoporosis Australia.
- Sell Osteoporosis Australia Bone Pins to clients/members, and participants who attend “Workout For Your Bones” activities.(Bone Pins are sold for $2 ea)
- Hold a morning tea – with calcium enriched foods like dairy products (yoghurts) – where booklets are given out on osteoporosis, and Osteoporosis Australia Bone Pins are sold.
- Offer membership deals during the month of August to encourage new members, with part of the proceeds of those new memberships going to Osteoporosis Australia.
If you work for a company, you and your colleagues can get together to workout and raise money for Osteoporosis Australia:
- Hold a morning tea – with calcium enriched foods like dairy products (yoghurts) – where booklets are given out on osteoporosis, and Osteoporosis Australia Bone Pins are sold.
- Organise a Workout For Your Bones group fitness activity that you can do in the lunch hour, and encourage your workmates to sponsor your efforts.Ask your company to dollar match your fundraising efforts.
The Workout For Your Bones Kit:
- We'll send you a Workout For Your Bones kit to help with your activity:
- Workout For Your Bones poster, to promote the event.
- Bone pins, which come individually packaged, and with a red display box.
- Information booklets on osteoporosis to handout to clients/members/colleagues.
- One-page handout for your clients on the benefits of exercise in preventing osteoporosis.
All monies raised from “Work Out for Your Bones” will go towards medical research into osteoporosis.
